Inspiration for the print ‘Collidoskope’:
Collidoskope came about after years of being fascinated by the art of collage as well as the brilliant invention that is the kaleidoscope. The print started developing when a burst of inspiration entered in the form of Lee Krasner’s exhibition at the London Barbican gallery. Her pioneering, breathtaking work and iconic strength and resolve was palpable. As a result a burst of creativity entered the studio, and in turn the print was born.
The House of Hopstock interpretation of collage is a culmination of their first four prints. Shangri La, Rare Bird, Deadly Bloom and Fatal Attraction. They took apart all their elements, broken them up, played with scale and placement, and put it all back together in a collage – koleidoskope style composition. It is playful, strong, rich and opulent. Furthermore it is an homage to all female artists who dared and dare to oppose their status quo.
House of Hopstock uses a lot of the same colours in all their china products, which makes it easier for you to mix and match!
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Aase Hopstock is a Norwegian-born artist who has lived in London for 16 years. For as along as she can remember, she has been obsessed with colour, form, texture, glamour, beauty and aesthetics, not to mention a neatly sharpened set of pencils.
Having told aesthetic tales through stage costumes, her own footwear brand, as well as numerous published illustrated works, Aase developed a great interest in the stories and philosophies that drive people’s personal sense of colour and style. After growing somewhat weary of fashion cycle, Aase decided to go back to her first love, drawing, and create a brand with a stronger sense of sustainability and permanence. In 2018, House of Hopstock was launched as her own illustrated universe, full of prints, vibrancy and colour.
House of Hopstock has a unique aesthetic, focusing on modern, bold, and vibrant illustrated prints. It is neither shy nor understated. Stories are an important part of the brand, be it the story behind the product and who produced it, to the materials used, as well as the story behind each print.
Currently the brand offers velvet cushions, fine bone china with 22ct gold detailing, kitchen textiles, wallpaper, fine art prints, as well as beauty bags and lavender-filled eye masks. Great value is placed on the ideas of quality, sustainability, and permanence.
