EMILY JANE TAYLOR
Emily Jane Taylor began her eponymous brand with the aim of creating sustainable and ethically produced clothing for a customer looking for something unique. Having worked in the fashion industry for a number of years, designing for a wide range of high street customers, she wanted to design garments that are not trend-driven, but instead focus on timeless design, high quality make and local, sustainable production.
Emily's designs aim to conjure a sense of dreamy opulence with a modern twist. Drawing inspiration from sources such as Japanese kimonos, English country gardens, 70's glamour and deco fashion illustrations.
She designs all the prints using a combination of sketching, watercolour, felt-tip and digital manipulation. All of the prints are then digitally printed to ensure they maintain their hand-drawn feel and the colours are bright and vibrant. Digital printing is a more environmentally friendly form of printing as it uses less than 20% of the water than traditional rotary screen printing uses and significantly less dyes and inks.
Emily uses high quality fabrics such as silk and sustainable bamboo silk for the garments. All of her printing is done in the UK as she believes in supporting local industries whilst also keep transport emissions low.
